ABOUT Anca

Anca Seger was born in Romania and lived between the United States and Canada since 1990.   She has concluded a medical career in Psychiatry to be fully dedicated to her artwork since 2023. She works mostly in acrylics and mixed media, continuously experimenting and searching for ways of expression.   "The art I create draws from my immigrant experience

and my psychiatry years of connecting to human suffering. It is meant to speak to your sense of belonging, one's search for roots, authenticity and history.

I failed Art School-then I moved into Science-and I think it was a pivotal change of direction that helped me grow.  I flunked the exam and I was disoriented: how do I define myself now? Who am I? The search for an answer took me through challenges and painful introspection, learning from mine and others' pain and struggles, from their joys and achievements.  I am still on the path of discovery as led by the creative process. A struggle to breathe, a glimmer of light in the darkness-where are we? Still stepping slowly, not sure where this leads me. The softness of the unknown shifts around me with each breath. Like a shivering flame ahead of me, my painting is my beacon,  holding my hand and pulling me forward. "

Anca has recently moved to Kitchener-Waterloo area in Ontario, currently working on ways to reflect her ethnic background and express her insightful understanding of human pain and search for identity.
